Unprecedented Growth Continues Throughout Texas
Chevron Corp is the latest company to expand its Texas presence. The company is slated to build a new 50-story, 1.7 million sq. ft. downtown office tower. Chevron’s expansion will include the hiring of a projected 1752 additional workers, expanding its presence from 9,000 to nearly 11,000 employees.
In a recent interview, Gov. Rick Perry stated, “Employers looking to expand or relocate their businesses continue to choose Texas’ strong job creation climate, low taxes, smart regulations, fair courts and skilled workforce. The Texas model is a blueprint for job creation, and the investment Chevron is making in Houston with more than 1,700 high-paying jobs opens the door to significant opportunities for Texans and their families.”
Houston is not the only Texas City that is experiencing tremendous growth. According to On Numbers, a feature of American City Business Journals that examines private sector job growth, unemployment, personal earning, construction and retail activity, Austin was ranked as No 1 and Dallas secured the No. 3 spot on the index. In our earlier post on the fastest growing US cities, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston all took positions within the top twelve.
As one of four markets with jobless rates of 6 percent Dallas is positioned for unprecedented growth starting with absorption of 1 million sq. ft. so far in 2013. The growing demand for office space is largely attributed to job growth in North Texas, which according to an article in the Dallas Business Journal included over 104,900 new jobs over the past 12 months.
