3D Printing Makes it’s Way Into Real Estate
With all of the recent hype around 3D printing, it was only a matter of time before someone figured out how to apply this concept to real estate. According to a recent article in Smart Planet, a Dutch architect is planning to use 3D printing technology to construct a house by the end of 2014.
3D printing and rapid prototyping have become increasingly prominent over the past few years as new materials and processes have expanded the capabilities and lowered the cost. As seen in this ‘endless’ house design, 3D printing is opening up new possibilities and increased flexibility in both design and production.
While this development is exciting, one real concern does comes to mind. How durable is a 3D printed object with respect to a mass produced object? The verdict is still out on this question but we’re happy to hear that the joints of this house will be reinforced with concrete and fiberglass to ensure a safe structure.
